.: Finding your System Specifications :.

Finding your system specifications can be troublesome if you are not very computer savvy. Here is a list of operating systems that are not currently supported by Runescape.

- Microsoft Windows 95
- Microsoft Windows 98
- Microsoft Windows ME (2000)

- Mac OSX 10.4
- Mac OSX 10.5 32bit – If you have a 64bit version of OSX 10.5, you will need to use the Runescape Client.

At a minimum you need the following to play Runescape:

- Mouse
- Keyboard
- Java Runtime Environment 1.6 Update 10.
- 512 MB RAM
- 1Ghz CPU
- For DirectX or OpenGL graphics: 128MB 3D Graphics Card (i.e. Nvidia® GeForce™ 4 or above, or ATI 9800 or above)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Operating systems that are listed below are the only ones so far compatible with Runescape.

- Windows XP
- Windows Vista
- Windows 7
- Macintosh

N.B. Linux OS is not listed here due it not being compatible by Runescape, however there is a solution for it listed here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.: Windows XP :.

To find your system specifications for Windows XP:

1. Select Windows Start Button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Open 'System'

This will display the System Properties dialog box; under the 'General' tab, you can view the basic system specifications of your computer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.: Windows Vista :.

To find your system specifications for Windows Vista:

1. Select Windows Start Button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Select 'System and Maintenance' followed by 'System'

This will bring up a window showing you the basic information about your computer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.: Windows 7 :.

To find your system specifications for Windows 7:

1. Select Windows Start Button
2. Click Control Panel
3. Select 'System and Security' followed by 'System'

This will bring up a window showing you the basic information about your computer.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

.: Macintosh :.

To find your system specifications for Macintosh OS:

1. Select Apple icon at top left of screen
2. Select 'About this Mac' / 'About this Computer'

It will now display the system specifications on your Macintosh.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

N.B. There is a really useful tool called DirectX Diagnostic Tool. It's main use is to check what kind of DirectX you are using, but it also brings up what your system specifications are too. Here's how you do it for Windows XP, Vista and 7:

1. Select Windows Start Button
2. In the search menu, type “dxdiag” and press Enter
3. Click “Yes” when prompted.

.: Runescape Client :.

The Runescape Client is used for people who cannot play Runescape with the Internet Browsers (I.E., Firefox, Chrome etc) without suffering from some problems. The minimum system requirements for the Client are not listed anywhere, but because it is used by "low-end" computers, I will assume it's half of the minimum requirements for the browsers.

At a minimum you need the following to play Runescape on the Client:

- Mouse
- Keyboard
- 256 MB RAM
- 500Mhz CPU

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

All operating systems are compatible with the client, however Linux users have intermittent problems with it sometimes. The solution for it is this:

Create an executable sh file and add the following to it (you must have 7zip installed before running) -

Code:
#!/bin/sh
CLIENT_LINK="http://www.runescape.com/g=runescape/downloads/runescape.dmg"
GAME_LOC="$HOME/jagexcache/runescape/bin"

# Check if 7zip is installed (required to extract the DMG)
if [ ! -f /usr/bin/7z ]; then
echo "It appears you do not have '7zip' installed, which is required to extract the download. To install it, run: \n\nsudo apt-get install p7zip-full"
   exit
fi

if [ ! -d $GAME_LOC ]; then
   # Create the directory for the client
   mkdir -p $GAME_LOC

   # Make a temporary folder to store extracted files
   mkdir $HOME/tmp
   cd $HOME/tmp

   wget -q $CLIENT_LINK

   # Extract the downloadable Mac client and the hfs file to get the jar and icon
   7z e runescape.dmg > /dev/null
   7z e 2.hfs -y > /dev/null

   # Move the required files to the client directory created earlier
   mv jagexappletviewer.jar $GAME_LOC
   mv jagexappletviewer.png $GAME_LOC

   # Delete the temporary folder
   cd ..
   rm -rf tmp
fi

# Run the client
java -Djava.class.path="$HOME/jagexcache/runescape/bin/jagexappletviewer.jar" -Dcom.jagex.config=http://www.runescape.com/k=3/l=en/jav_config.ws jagexappletviewer "$HOME/jagexcache/runescape/bin" > /dev/null

To download the Runescape Client you can choose from two options; Windows and Mac.

Windows - http://www.runescape.com/g=runescape/downloads/runescape.msi?151111
Macintosh - http://www.runescape.com/g=runescape/downloads/runescape.dmg?151111

.: Swiftkit :.

Swiftkit is one of the many third-party software used by Runescape Players to play Runescape. It's origins exist when PKers would use them to quickly look up someone's stats to determine if they had a chance of killing them or not.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Minimum System Requirements for Swiftkit are:

- Operating systems: Windows 7, Windows 2003, Windows 2000, Windows Vista, Windows XP, Windows Server 2008
- Additional requirements: Visual Basic Runtime Module 6.0

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many types of Swiftkit you can download; Windows & Mac being the two I will list here:

Windows - http://www.swiftkit.net/download.php
Macintosh - http://www.swiftkit.net/download.php?dl=mac (N.B. Swiftkit Mac is in BETA mode, there may be bugs which can be posted here - http://forums.zybez.net/forum/510-swiftkit-mac/)

.: Java :.

Because Runescape is a game based from Java (Made by the Sun Java company), there is a minimum requirement to keep up with the everchanging updates and game that JaGeX make.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Minimum Java requirements is Java Runtime Environment 1.6 Update 10, at the moment the latest is 1.6 Update 30. There are some people who still run older versions (like myself who's on Update 7) and the Runescape game works perfectly fine. However, this is not the case for the majority of players and JaGeX does ask that you have your Java updated to the latest version so they can correct your problems easier.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

There are many types of Java you can download; i will list Windows & Linux because Mac have their own version:

Windows - http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=58139
Linux - http://javadl.sun.com/webapps/download/AutoDL?BundleId=58117

Running the RS Client in Ubuntu under Wine without modifying anything almost always works. Plus system info can be found in Gnome under system/administrator/system monitor/"system" tab, in Unity the easiest way is: dash home then type in the search box "system info"

Looks very nice, I'll take a closer look when it stops working for me =P

PS: Technically you don't need a keyboard for RS.

And you could use a mousepad in stand of a mouse.

Greetings, holy crashed.
